Home Alone

In this 1990 Holiday Classic, It is Christmas time and the McCallister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the youngest in the family, Kevin , got into a scuffle with his older brother Buzz and was sent to his room, which is on the third floor of his house. Then, the next morning, while the rest of the family was in a rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely forgot about Kevin, who now has the house all to himself. Being home alone was fun for Kevin, having a pizza all to himself, jumping on his parents' bed, and making a mess. Then, Kevin discovers about two burglars, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), about to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly by wiring his own house with makeshift booby traps to stop the burglars and to bring them to justice. Source

What else is an 8 year old left by himself going to eat but the classics. These recipes are upscaled takes on pizza, mac n cheese, and Pepsi!

Johnny: "Leave it on the doorstep and get the hell outta here"

The Scene: When his PIzza arrives, Kevin uses sound clips from the gangster movie “Angels with Filthy Souls” he has been using to deter the robber from entering his house to thank the pizza man for the delivery.

Fun fact: Some people believe the gangster movie looked so legit that it had to be real. But that's not the case. "Angels with Filthy Souls" is a fictional film that was created solely for "Home Alone."

"Home Alone" cinematographer Julio Macat told the Hollywood Reporter that "Angels with Filthy Souls" was filmed in a way to make it look like it came from the 1930s, but credited the actors, Ralph Foody and Michael Guido, with making the clip feel like it came from a real movie. Source

Everything but the “Kevin” Pizza

This simple Supreme Pizza is made with homemade pizza dough, sauce, mozzarella cheese, three meat toppings, red onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Delicious, flavorful, and perfect for pizza night at home.

Ingredients

The homemade dough Source

  • All-purpose flour

  • Active dry yeast

  • Warm water

  • Salt

  • Granulated sugar or honey

  • Olive oil

  • Italian seasoning

The Toppings (by personal preference)

  • 1 jar store-bought sauce such as marinara or basil

  • 1 bag shredded low moisture mozzarella cheese

  • 1 red onion

  • 1 green bell pepper thinly sliced i

  • 1 6 oz package of baby bella slicced mushrooms

  • 1 mild italian sausage

  • 4 oz pepperoni

  • 4oz ground beef

 Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

The pizza dough

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook attached, pour in the all-purpose flour, salt, and Italian seasoning. Turn the mixer on low speed to combine the dry ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, stir together the warm water and sugar until the sugar has completely dissolved. Add the active dry yeast and stir just enough to combine with the water sugar mixture

  • Slowly pour the yeast mixture into the stand mixer bowl along with the flour mixture. Turn the mixer on the lowest speed possible and once all the ingredients begin to come together add in the olive oil

  • Continue to mix everything together on low speed for about 10 minutes. Once the pizza dough begins to come together to stick onto itself and form a loose dough ball, turn off the mixer, it is ready for the next step in the process.

  • Place the dough on a clean lightly floured surface. With floured hands, knead the dough until it forms a smooth dough ball that springs back when pressed with the finger. The dough will be sticky but should not come apart

  • Place the pizza dough into a bowl that is lightly greased with olive oil. Also, lightly coat the outer surface of the pizza dough ball with a little more olive oil. Pizza dough loves olive oil

  • Cover loosely with a towel or plastic wrap, place in a warm (draft-free) area, and allow the dough to rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size

  • Gently press the air out of the dough. It is ready to use to make pizza!

The Toppings

  • Cook the sausage on medium on a stovetop until it releases most of the fat and has a slightly crispy texture. Slice it after cooking and before adding to pizza

  • Using the same pan, reheat the pan over medium-high heat before adding the beef so it browns quickly and seals in juices. You can use a little bit of oil to prevent sticking, and olive oil can add flavor to leaner beef. Cook for ~5 minutes. Use a wooden spatula to break up the beef into smaller pieces while cooking so the edges brown more and spices distribute evenly. Add to the pizza when slightly cooled

  • Chop or thinly slice the red onion

  • Thinly slice the green pepper into rings

  • Spread the marinara sauce evenly throughout the pizza, leaving room on the edges for it to form the crust

  • Layer on the toppings

Place the supreme pizza back into the oven and bake for about 10 to 12 additional minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown. Carefully remove the pizza from the oven and slice using a pizza wheel. Serve warm and enjoy!

Why this recipe works

  • You really aren’t tied to any of the ingredients so feel free to omit any or add any as you like!

Pro Tips

  • Making homemade dough can be a lot if you want a fast weeknight option—you can buy storebought dough and use it as long as it is fresh or thawed, don’t start with frozen dough

  • Top with red pepper flakes for an extra kick

“Guys I’m eating junk and watching rubbish! You'd better come out and stop me!”

The Scene: In his new-found freedom Kevin makes a giant sundae and watches more of “Angels With Filthy Souls'“ before realizing that the gangster movie might be even too much for him and cries out for his mom.

Fun Fact: The ice cream sundae supposedly may have been invented in the late 1800s in Two Rivers, Wisconsin to get around Blue Laws, which were religious laws that restricted certain activities on Sundays. One such law prohibited the sale of soda on Sundays, which made it difficult for people to enjoy ice cream sodas and root beer floats.

“Fuller go easy on the Pepsi!”

The Scene: As the McAllisters are getting ready to leave for France, one cousin steals the comedic scene at the table as he unabashedly drinks a Pepsi while his mother tells him not to.

Fun Fact: This blew my mind for whatever reason but Fuller is actually Kieran Culkin’s, first ever role! These days he is a huge store in shows like Succession. Oh yea, and Home Alone start MaCaulay Culkin’s brother.
